Assimilation system
SAM2V1 : the Mercator Assimilation System (SAM) 2 version 1 is an extended Kalman filter based on the SEEK formulation proposed by Pham et al. (1998). The control vector consists in the barotropic height and 3D temperature, salinity, zonal and meridional velocity fields. Forecast error covariance is modelled by a collection of 3D ocean state anomalies (a few hundreds) which evolve seasonaly. Observation errors are diagonal and have a spatial dependancy.
